About This Tour

This is a private, full day, driver-guided tour. Your guide will pick you up and drop you off at your Edinburgh accommodation with their vehicle.

Tour Itinerary

Upon departing Edinburgh our journey takes us south to Rosslyn Chapel. While it has been shrouded in mystery for hundreds of years, the Chapel gained international fame after featuring in Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code book and 2006 film. It was completed in 1446 and weekly services are still held here today. Here you will discover this secretive and ever-mysterious building with the Chapel guides as they explain its architecture, history, and some of the countless theories, myths and legends associated with it.

After the Chapel we continue on to the picturesque Glenkinchie Whisky Distillery where we tour the production facility, discover how they make their ‘water of life’, and of course, sample the produce.

After the distillery we make our way northeast and head towards the coast along rustic country lanes, stopping for lunch in a village along the way. Our destination is Tantallon Castle; a grand, ruined castle perched on the edge of a sea cliff. As the last medieval curtain wall castle to be constructed in Scotland, it comprises of a single wall blocking off the headland, with the other three sides naturally protected from enemies by towering sea cliffs. We can climb up to the battlements and enjoy more stunning views of the castle, coast, and North Sea with Bass Rock in the foreground.

The Bass Rock is a huge trachyte plug of volcanic rock sticking out from the sea. This rock is a home to some 150,000 gannets during the peak breeding season and as a result has been described by Sir David Attenborough as ‘one of the 12 wildlife wonders of the world’.

We then proceed to our final stop on this tour, the seaside town and former royal burgh North Berwick. Here we explore the harbour, beaches and the town itself along with its rich history. We also have the opportunity to visit the Scottish Seabird Centre.

We finish the day by taking the coastal route back to Edinburgh.
