About This Tour
This is a private, full day, driver-guided tour. Your guide will pick you up and drop you off at your Edinburgh accommodation with their vehicle.
Tour Itinerary
Shortly after departing Edinburgh we will stop at a viewpoint where we can admire the Forth Bridges. The Forth Bridge, Forth Road Bridge, and Queensferry Crossing span three centuries and all cross the Firth of Forth, connecting Edinburgh with the Kingdom of Fife. The original, imposing red cantilever Forth Bridge was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2015.
After crossing the Forth estuary we enter the Kingdom of Fife, the ancestral home of Scottish monarchs and continue on to the historic and picturesque town of Falkland.
Here we will visit Falkland Palace, a fine Renaissance palace which was once the country residence of the Stewart kings and queens, including Mary, Queen of Scots. Make sure to take in the ornate wood panelling, painted ceilings, tapestries, and beautifully carved furniture, as well as the renaissance influence throughout. We can also take a stroll around the magnificent palace gardens and see the oldest surviving real tennis court in the world.
We continue on to the royal burgh of St Andrews. Here will take things at an easy pace as we explore the town by foot, soaking up the rich history and traditions of the town and university grounds, walk alongside the iconic Old Course, stopping for lunch on the way.
We will discover the history behind the ruins of Scotland’s most magnificent medieval church. The site of the Cathedral has been used for worship since at least the 700s, when St Andrew’s relics are said to have been brought there. Optionally we can also visit the Cathedral Museum. It boasts an outstanding collection of early and later medieval sculptures, Pictish slabs, and other relics found on the site including the magnificent St Andrews Sarcophagus.
Our final stop takes us south to the charming fishing village of Anstruther before returning back to Edinburgh.
