Tour Itinerary
Beginning our tour we head straight from Edinburgh to one of Scotland’s most important historic sites: Stirling Castle, a great stone fortress rising above the town on a high, rocky crag surrounded by steep cliffs.
We will explore the castle on foot, discovering a thousand years of Scottish history, complete with fascinating tales of royalty, politics, and the daily lives of peoples from the past. Taking a step back in time to the days of a medieval royal court, we will wander through the Royal Palace, skilfully restored to exquisite past splendour, and look out over the castle’s rocky ramparts to battlefields where Scottish armies fought for freedom against the English. Here we will also discover some of the many influential historical figures who passed through the castle and its surroundings, including Mary Queen of Scots.
Next we will drive into the scenic Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Our route takes us along the Duke’s Pass, one of Scotland’s best road trips, winding up and down the heart of the Trossachs with spectacular sweeping views on every side. We will pass by Loch Venachar and Loch Achray and arrive at the charming village of Aberfoyle, full of Victorian architecture and the perfect place for our lunch stop.
After lunch, we drive on to Balmaha, a picturesque village nestled on the eastern shore of the renowned Loch Lomond, the largest lake in Britain by surface area. Here we stop to visit the village and breathe in the beauty of the bonny banks of the loch and surroundings.
Returning to our vehicle, we will continue our road trip and head to Glengoyne distillery, nestled in the division between the Highlands and Lowlands of Scotland. Here we will distillery’s skilled staff on a guided tour to explore the buildings, discovering the history and journey of its prized whisky. We will also have the opportunity to try a “wee dram” of the famous spirit ourselves.
From Glengoyne we return back to Edinburgh, where we will finish the tour.
