About This Tour

This is a private, full day, driver-guided tour. Your guide will pick you up and drop you off at your Glasgow accommodation with their vehicle.

Tour Itinerary

From Glasgow we drive to Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic and historically significant sites.

We will explore this mighty ancient fortress on foot, embarking on a journey into almost a thousand years of Scottish history. Stepping back in time to the days of a medieval royal court, we will see the Royal Palace, skilfully restored to the lavish splendour of the past. Looking out over rocky ramparts we will see battlefields where Scottish armies fought for freedom against the English. We will also learn about famous figures closely tied to this strategic stronghold, including Mary Queen of Scots and national hero William Wallace.

Leaving Stirling, our journey continues towards Scotland’s famous Highlands. Our road will take us through outlaw country and past the grave of cattle rustler and Scottish folk hero Rob Roy Macgregor. Known as Scotland’s Robin Hood, this infamous Highland outlaw became legendary when Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott penned a book about his life.

Next we will make a stop at the scenic Loch Voil, for a photo opportunity and chance to breathe in the beauty and history of the Highland glen landscape. Continuing our journey, we next stop for lunch at the charming town of Crianlarich.

Our journey then continues along a scenic pass through dramatic, windswept hills, where we will stop to take in the views at the appropriately named Rest and Be Thankful. The summit of a twisting military road, this viewpoint marks the point of rest for what used to be a strenuous trek into the further Highlands beyond.

We will also make a photo stop at the picturesque village of Tarbet on the bonny banks of Loch Lomond, offering views over the sparkling waters and the peak of Ben Lomond beyond.

Leaving the Highlands we arrive at Glengoyne distillery, lying at the edge of the lush green Lowlands. Here we will join the distillery’s skilled staff on a guided tour, discovering the history and journey of its unique whisky. We will also have the opportunity to try a “wee dram” of the spirit ourselves.
We then return to Glasgow and finish our tour.
