About This Tour

This is a private, full day, driver-guided tour. Your guide will pick you up and drop you off at your Edinburgh accommodation with their vehicle. This tour is also available from Glasgow.

Tour Itinerary

From Edinburgh we head to the Scottish Highlands by way of the historic town of Stirling. Passing the imposing Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic buildings, we will hear the true story of William Wallace, Scotland’s national hero of Braveheart fame.

Our drive will also take us past Doune Castle, a striking fourteenth century stronghold that has been used as a film location for the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, as well as the “Outlander” and “Game of Thrones” series. Next we enter the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs national park, stopping for a coffee break on the beautiful banks of Loch Lubnaig.

Continuing into the highlands, we will drive through some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery. Passing Glen Ogle and the picturesque villages of Crianlarich and Tyndrum, we enter the Black Mount range and will see some of Scotland’s most breath-taking and iconic peaks rising dramatically around us. At Glen Coe we will stop for a photo opportunity to take in the beauty and tragic history of this Highland heartland.

Next we stop for lunch at Fort William, before continuing on towards Fort Augustus, a scenic hamlet on the southernmost tip of Loch Ness. Here we will take a boat tour to enjoy views of the mysterious Loch and the dramatic scenery that surrounds it. Remember to keep your eyes open in case we spot the loch’s most famous resident: Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster.

We then return to our vehicle and start the return journey back to Glasgow, through more sweeping mountain landscapes. We will make a stop at a viewpoint offering views of the iconic Commando Memorial and of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles. Further along we will drive past Loch Laggan and the fairy-tale like Ardverikie Castle. This baronial house, constructed in Victorian gothic splendour and nestled in pristine forest estate, was used as a film location for the Monarch of the Glen and Outlander series.

We will make a brief, final stop at the charming Victorian town of Pitlochry, before driving back to Edinburgh, where the tour will end.
